Inscriptions of Ashoka
Lampaka Edict (Pul-i-Darunta Edict)
A few years before 1932, a broken stone tablet carrying an inscription was procured in the neighborhood of Pul-i-Darunta in the Lamghan area. This inscription slab is now housed in Kabul museum. The inscription is popularly known as Lampaka inscription, where Lampaka is now identified with modern Laghman, on the northern bank of Kabul river near Jalalabad in Afghanistan.
Prof. Morgenstierne made the discovery known to the academic circles in Europe. H Birkeland was the first one to edit this epigraph. He dated it to Achaemenid period. F Altheim attributed it to Ashoka. W B Henning confirmed this attribution.
